Fifteen Minutes Up The Interstate
Royse City is roughly ten miles up I-30 from downtown Rockwall, about a fifteen-minute drive when traffic behaves. It sits in the northeast corner of Rockwall County and spills over into Collin and Hunt, but the roofs do not care which county line they are on, and neither do we. It is one of the closest towns we serve.
The town started in 1885, when the railroad came through between Greenville and Dallas, and it is named after G. B. Royse, who platted it and sold the first lots. The old downtown still keeps that original street grid. For most of its life Royse City was small; the census found about 9,300 people in 2010 and 13,500 in 2020. Then it took off, with the Census Bureau estimating over 24,000 by 2023 as subdivisions spread north and south of I-30 onto former farmland.
That leaves Royse City with two very different sets of roofs: older houses near the center that have been reroofed more than once, and young roofs in the new neighbourhoods that have not had time to show their faults yet. We look at both the same way. Get up there, photograph what is wrong, and tell you straight whether it needs anything.

What Royse City Roofs Are Up Against
Royse City sits out on open country along I-30, half old town and half brand-new. The roof problems we find here follow from both of those facts. These are the ones we check for on almost every visit.
- Fields where the windbreaks used to be. A lot of new Royse City streets were farmland until recently, so there are no mature trees and few tall buildings around. Gusts arrive at full strength and work at the shingle edges and ridge cap.
- Hail across open country. Storms crossing this part of North Texas have nothing to slow them down. Hail strips granules and cracks the mat beneath, and from the street the roof often still looks fine.
- Brand-new roofs, untested. Many homes here have never been through a serious storm with their current roof. The first big one tends to find whatever was rushed during the build, usually flashing, pipe boots or nailing at the eaves.
- Layers on older homes. Houses near downtown have often been reroofed over the top of an older roof instead of stripped. Extra layers add weight, hide rotten decking and change how a tear-off needs to be planned.
- Ventilation that never got checked. Older attics were often built with too little airflow, and some newer ones are blocked by insulation. Either way, trapped Texas heat ages shingles from underneath.
- Storm-chaser season. After big hail, crews from out of state knock on doors along the interstate towns. Ask anyone who shows up where their office is and whether they will be around in ten years to honour a warranty.
How A Royse City Roof Gets Done
Simple and in order. This is how a Royse City roof goes from your first call to a clean driveway with the job finished, with no surprises along the way.
Free Inspection
We go up, look at the shingles, flashing, vents and decking, take photos, and give you an honest verdict on repair versus replacement.
Written Estimate
Your scope and price in writing, with shingle and colour choices laid out. It holds unless the tear-off reveals damage that was hidden underneath.
Scheduling & Setup
We choose a date, get materials ordered and decide together where the dumpster and delivery truck will sit, so the morning of the job runs smoothly for you and the neighbours.
Tear-Off & Install
Every old layer comes off, the decking gets checked and any rotten boards are swapped out, then the new roof goes on. Most houses take one or two days; older homes with several layers can need extra time, and you will know before day one.
Cleanup & Walkthrough
We go over the drive, lawn and flower beds with magnets for stray nails, haul every scrap of debris away, then tour the new roof with you and get both warranties registered.
Old Town Grid Or New Subdivision?
Royse City’s housing splits fairly cleanly into older homes near the center and newer builds on the edges. They tend to need different things, so where you live shapes what we check first.
If you are in one of the newer subdivisions…
- Your roof is probably young, so we focus on how it was put together rather than how old it is.
- Pipe boots, wall flashing, valleys and the nailing along the eaves are where we usually find the faults.
- With little shelter around the house, we check edges and ridge caps closely for wind lift.
- If the roof is still in its early years, a well-placed repair is usually all it needs.
If your home is near the old downtown…
- We count the layers first, because a roof laid over another roof changes the whole job.
- Soft or rotted decking is common on older houses and needs replacing, not covering.
- Older attics are often short on ventilation, which we can correct as part of the work.
- When the roof has reached the end of its life, we will show you why repairs stop making sense.
Old town or new build, the inspection is free. If a targeted repair is the right answer, that is the answer you get, without a sales pitch for a new roof.

Navigating The Claim Process Together
Storms that roll across the open ground around Royse City can hit a whole subdivision in minutes, and plenty of owners in the new neighbourhoods have never filed a roof claim before. Here is how we help, and where we stop. We are roofers, not adjusters and not attorneys. We will discuss what the roof needs; what your policy says is not our department.
- Proof, not opinions. We photograph granule loss, cracked or lifted shingles and dented metal, and pin down the date of the storm while it is fresh.
- Your contractor of record. Should you choose us for that role, the adjuster contacts us first and we go over the damage with them in person, so you are not doing it alone.
- Talking scope of work. We use code and the manufacturer's instructions to show what a proper repair needs, and when the approved scope misses something, a supplement goes in.
- Honesty first. If there is not enough damage for a claim, we will say so and save you the trouble.

Royse City's Local Roofers
We are family-owned, have been roofing around Rockwall since 1995, and have no plans to go anywhere. When hail brings out-of-town crews to the I-30 towns, that matters: we will still be here when you need a warranty honoured. Look for Roofus, the pig in the hard hat on our truck.
Our office is in Rowlett and Royse City is a short run east. We also cover nearby Fate, Rockwall, Heath, McLendon-Chisholm and Lavon. If you are not sure whether we come out to your address, just call and ask.
What Bacon Roofing Customers Say
John Bacon from Bacon Roofing was such a pleasure to work with. Very professional and no pressure. The crew was on time and did a beautiful job. Bacon Roofing does not cut any corners in installing a new roof.
These guys are top notch. In all our years of dealing with various contractors, I was expecting yet another terrible experience, especially with a huge price tag for a new roof. That was not the case with Bacon Roofing.
Our house was hit by a strong hail storm and I needed a new roof. I did not even hesitate to think of anyone else but John Bacon and his company to put my roof on my home.
Royse City Roofing FAQs
I am on the Hunt County side. Do you come out?
Yes. Royse City spreads across Rockwall, Collin and Hunt counties, and we work all of it. The whole town is roughly ten miles up I-30 from Rockwall, so the county line makes no difference to us.
A crew knocked on my door after the hail. Should I sign with them?
Take your time. After a big storm, out-of-area crews often work the towns along I-30, and some are gone by the next season. Before you sign anything, ask where their office is, who backs the workmanship, and whether they will still be around to answer the phone in a few years. Getting a second opinion from a local roofer is always reasonable.
Could my older house have two roofs on it?
You often cannot tell from the ground, but thick-looking edges at the eaves and gables are a clue. We check during the inspection by looking at the edges and, where needed, from the attic. It matters because every layer has to come off before a new roof goes on, and it affects time, disposal and the estimate.
My house is new. Does it need an inspection at all?
It is worth one, especially after the first big storm. New roofs rarely fail because the shingles are worn out. They fail because a pipe boot, a piece of flashing or a row of nails along the edge was not done right during a fast build. Catching that while it is a small repair is much cheaper than finding it as a ceiling stain later.
How do I tell if we got hail damage?
Usually not from the ground. Hail crushes the granule layer and cracks the shingle underneath, and nothing looks wrong from the driveway. Things you can check yourself: granules collecting where the downspouts empty, dents in the gutters and roof vents, and dented fins on the outside AC unit. If you spot those, the roof deserves a closer look.
Do you help with insurance claims?
We help you navigate the process. As your contractor of record we are the one your adjuster contacts, we go up on the roof with them, and our dated photos support what we found. We stick to the scope of work under code and the manufacturer’s instructions. We are roofers, not adjusters or attorneys, so anything about coverage is a question for your insurer.
Is the inspection actually free?
Yes, with no strings attached. We inspect for free and you owe us nothing afterwards. A good number of our Royse City visits finish with a simple verdict: the roof has life left, call us if that changes.
Which nearby areas do you also cover?
Along with Royse City we serve Rockwall, Fate, Heath, Rowlett, McLendon-Chisholm, Forney, Wylie, Lavon and Garland, as well as the rural roads between them.
