Our Office Is On Lakeview Parkway

Bacon Roofing’s office is at 8126 Lakeview Parkway, Suite 13, right here in Rowlett. When you call, the person who picks up works a few minutes from your street, and when a storm comes through, our own part of town is in it too. We have been roofing around Lake Ray Hubbard since 1995.

Rowlett is an interesting place to put a roof on. The city spreads across both Dallas and Rockwall counties and wraps around roughly 30 miles of Lake Ray Hubbard shoreline. It incorporated in 1952 with about 250 residents, then took off once the lake was finished in 1971. More than 62,000 people lived here at the 2020 census, most of them in houses built between the 1980s and the 2000s, with the 1990s the busiest decade of all.

A house from 1990 is now well over thirty years old, which means it is probably on its second roof, or should be. We start every job the same way: a free inspection, photos of what we find, and a recommendation in plain language that you can check for yourself.

What Rowlett Roofs Deal With

Rowlett has homes right on the shoreline, older streets back toward downtown and the DART station, and newer pockets in between. Each setting puts a different kind of stress on a roof. These are the things we check for most often around town.

  • A shoreline city. With around 30 miles of Lake Ray Hubbard frontage, a lot of Rowlett faces open water. Wind gathers speed over the lake and reaches the first row of houses with nothing in the way, so ridge caps, rake edges and loose tabs on lakeside homes are tested first.
  • Roofs from the 1980s and 1990s. Those two decades built a large share of the city. Houses that age have often been reroofed already, sometimes right over an old layer, and earlier repairs, mixed shingle types and tired decking tend to show up once we look closely.
  • December 2015. On December 26, 2015, a tornado the National Weather Service rated EF4 tracked from Sunnyvale and Garland into southeast Rowlett, damaging or destroying hundreds of homes. Roofs rebuilt in the year that followed are now around ten years old, a sensible point for a routine check of how they were installed.
  • Spring hail. Rowlett sees the same spring storms as the rest of North Texas. Instead of tearing through, hail cracks the fibreglass mat beneath the surface and knocks loose the grit that protects it from UV. The roof looks fine from the street while it ages years in an afternoon.
  • Trees with a head start. Neighbourhoods from the 1980s have had decades to grow shade trees. Branches over a roof drop debris into valleys, hold moisture against the shingles and scrape the surface in every gust, so trimming back is often part of our advice.
  • Low-slope add-ons. Patio covers, sunrooms and porch extensions added over the years often tie into the main roof at a shallow pitch. Shingles need slope to shed water, so these joins are a common source of leaks that show up a long way from the stain.
How the job runs

How A Rowlett Job Comes Together

Being local makes the logistics easy, but the steps are the same on every roof. Here is what happens between your first phone call and the day we pack up and leave.

1

Free Inspection

We climb up, inspect every slope and penetration, and show you the photos so you see exactly what we saw.

2

Written Estimate

Materials, colours and scope are spelled out on paper. The figure on it holds, unless rotted wood appears beneath the old shingles.

3

Scheduling & Delivery

We book a start date, get materials delivered, and agree where the dumpster goes. Tight lakeside lots and shared drives get a plan in advance so nobody next door is blocked in.

4

Tear-Off & Install

We strip the roof to the decking, swap any boards that have gone soft, then lay underlayment, new flashing and the shingle system. Most Rowlett houses take a day or two. Bigger roofs take longer, and the estimate says so.

5

Cleanup & Walkthrough

Magnets sweep the drive, lawn and flower beds for nails. Then we go over the finished roof together, answer your questions, and register both warranties in your name.

The Builder’s Roof Or A Newer One?

Most Rowlett homes fall into one of two camps: still wearing the roof the builder put on, or reroofed at some point since. Each one points the inspection somewhere different.

If the builder’s roof is still up there…

  • A roof from the 1990s is now more than twenty-five years old, past what most standard shingles are designed to give in Texas sun.
  • Shingles that age turn brittle and crack when lifted, so even a small repair gets harder to do cleanly.
  • Ventilation in older attics was often minimal, and a hot attic shortens shingle life, so we check intake and exhaust.
  • Decking may have soaked up years of small leaks. We probe for soft spots before giving you a number.
Usually the question is when to replace, not whether.

If it has been replaced since…

  • We check how the last job was done: starter strips, nailing pattern, and flashing at walls and chimneys.
  • A roof laid over an old layer hides problems, adds weight, and changes what the next tear-off involves.
  • When a roof younger than fifteen has a single leak, the cause is usually one failed detail rather than worn-out shingles.
  • Dig out any paperwork from that job, since a manufacturer warranty may still apply.
Often a repair, as long as the install was right.

Not sure which camp your house is in? The attic and the first few shingles we lift usually tell us. The free inspection settles it, and a repair is always the first option we consider.

After a storm

Storm Claims, With A Roofer Beside You

Storms come with living by the lake, and so do the calls with insurers that follow. We help you navigate the process, but we stay in our lane. Remember that we are roofers, not adjusters or attorneys. Our side of it is the scope of work your roof needs, measured against code and the manufacturer’s instructions. Questions about coverage stay between you and your insurer.

  • A photographed inspection, free. Every hail mark, creased shingle and damaged vent gets a dated picture, and we note when the storm hit so the timeline is clear.
  • One point of contact. With us as your contractor of record, the adjuster deals with us directly, and we stand on the roof with them during their visit.
  • Scope, backed by the rules. If an item is missing from the estimate, we show why it belongs using code requirements and the manufacturer’s instructions, and send a supplement.
  • No false hopes. If the damage will not support a claim, we say so plainly and suggest what makes sense instead.

Roofers Based In Rowlett

Plenty of roofers list Rowlett as a service area. We actually work from here. The office at 8126 Lakeview Parkway, Suite 13 is where the phones get answered and the estimates get written, and Roofus the hard-hat pig is never far away. Being family-owned since 1995 means our name stays attached to every roof long after the crew has gone home.

These guys are top notch. In all our years of dealing with various contractors, I was expecting yet another terrible experience, especially with a huge price tag for a new roof. That was not the case with Bacon Roofing.

Our house was hit by a strong hail storm and I needed a new roof. I did not even hesitate to think of anyone else but John Bacon and his company to put my roof on my home.

Common questions

Rowlett Roofing FAQs

At 8126 Lakeview Parkway, Suite 13, Rowlett, TX 75088, on State Highway 66. That makes Rowlett our closest market, and the city we can reach fastest when a storm has just come through.

If it is the original roof, it has done well to last this long, and it is worth having it checked. A big share of Rowlett went up in the 1980s and 1990s, and shingles in this climate rarely make thirty years. If it has been replaced once already, the answer depends on when and how well, which is exactly what an inspection shows.

Mainly more attention to wind. Houses on the shoreline take gusts straight off the lake, so we look hard at how the shingles are nailed and sealed at the edges and the ridge. We also suggest a quick check after any strong storm, since a few lifted tabs are easy to fix before water finds them.

It is a sensible idea, not a cause for worry. Roofs installed in 2016 are now about ten years old, and work done in a hurry after a disaster is not always detailed as carefully as it should be. A calm inspection confirms the flashing, nailing and ventilation were done properly and catches any small issue while it is still small.

Start with what is easy to see from the ground. Check the metal: dents on the tops of vent caps, in the gutters, on the AC unit or the mailbox all suggest hail big enough to hurt shingles. Then look at the splash block under each downspout for a build-up of grit. Shingles rarely show the damage from below, so if the metal is marked, book an inspection.

We can help you navigate the process. Once you make us your contractor of record, your adjuster has a roofer to talk to, and we join them for the roof inspection with our dated photos in hand. We keep the discussion on the scope of work and on what code and the manufacturer’s instructions call for. Being roofers, not adjusters or attorneys, we leave policy matters to you and your insurer.

They are. No fee, no obligation and no sales pitch afterwards. We are in Rowlett already, so sending someone out is easy, and plenty of visits end with us telling the homeowner the roof is in good shape for now.
